The House of Tudor or the Tudor Dynasty was a European royal house of Welsh origin that ruled the Kingdom of England from 1485 until 1603 with Henry Tudor being its first monarch. The House of Tudor the most famous of all English royal families successfully established itself on England’s throne through victory over Richard III in 1483. Henry VII brought an end to the civil strife of the Wars of the Roses (1455 – 1487) and his subsequent marriage to Elizabeth of York. The House of Tudor ruled England for 118 years and became extinct on the death of Elizabeth who died without a direct heir in 1603.
